CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER ICT

Jan Thompson

Jan Thomson Chief Information Officer

As Chief Information Officer for the ICT business area, Jan has responsibility for the management, development and implementation of the organisation's information technology programme which enhances the strategic and operational management of the organisation and advances the delivery of both business and customer aims and objectives.

In April 2008, SPSA took control of all ICT staff on behalf of the Scottish police forces.  The ICT functional business units are now based on seven main service lines and the staff are geographically located over the eight police regions of Scotland and SPSA's own business areas.  Jan was appointed as SPSA's new Chief Information Officer (CIO) in July 2009.

Jan's 18 year career in corporate ICT spans strategic development, procurement, implementation and service management. He joined SPSA from Deloitte (Glasgow) where he advised organisations like the Police Service of Northern Ireland, Leicestershire County Council and Ealing Council. He started his ICT career ‘on the tools' with British Gas (Scotland) and then moved to Scottish Telecom before joining Mason Communications, where clients included PITO, Orange and '3'.

Jan joined SPSA at an exciting time in our development and has wealth of practical experience in leading the implementation of ICT strategies and programmes, and doing so within organisations that have had to change the way they operate to deliver what their customers need.
