Barry Donnachie, Learning and Development Officer

DSC 0062-1

Barry Donnachie is a Learning and Development Officer and looks after the learning and development needs for all our people.

Barry explained: "It is my responsibility to meet the diverse learning and development needs of SPSA colleagues across the organisation. This can vary from sourcing external training in the most cost effective manner to the actual design and delivery of training solutions.  With such varied business areas and job roles across SPSA it's no easy task.

"Its hard to describe what a typical day for me is, a lot of what I do is reactive.  I spend a lot of time on our training application ensuring courses are captured and colleagues training records are accurate and up to date.  During the Personal Development Review process I also spend a lot of time providing support in planning and sourcing any training that has been identified in line with colleagues development needs.

"Developing and delivering the induction training programme for all new recruits is also a key part of my role.  We want to help all new colleagues to settle into their new job roles as soon as possible and I have an important part to play in introducing and welcoming people to our business.

"On a personal level, the aspect of my role I enjoy and look forward to is the delivery of training.  It's a fantastic way to get to know your colleagues which is good for me being relatively new to the organisation.

"I like being innovative and creative and so the design of the training materials is also something I love getting my teeth into.  It also gives me a great deal of satisfaction from evaluation forms being returned giving the training a glowing report.  Knowing that it hit the mark and that the attendees have benefitted from the course is a great feeling."
