Joanne Stewart, Corporate Communications Business Partner

Joanne 2

Joanne is one of the organisation's Corporate Communication Business Partners and loves the variety and pace of her role.

Joanne said: "I am one of three business partners in the corporate communications team and we provide support to the business areas for internal and external communications, including media, publicity and marketing.

"Although as a team we provide support to the whole organisation, I am specifically aligned to the Forensic Services and Criminal Justice business areas, which provides them with a main point of contact for any queries they have.  It also gives me more of an opportunity to get to know each of the teams and build my understanding and knowledge of their main priorities and the issues that they might face.

"I love working with Forensic Services; even though it isn't quite like CSI I still find the work they do so interesting and worthwhile and I get to work on some fantastic projects with them.

"It sounds a cliché, but in my role I never have two days which are the same.  One minute I can be working on producing promotional material for a campaign, or developing a communications plan for a particular project, and the next I can be dealing with media enquiries and arranging interviews with our staff and access for film crews.

"Corporate communications can be a very fast moving environment to work within.  When the phone rings we have to be prepared to deal with media enquiries which often need an immediate answer, while balancing the demands of the projects we support in each business areas.  We have a slightly unusual role in that we need to have comprehensive knowledge of each of the business areas, the work that they do and the projects and initiatives they are involved in.  We can get asked virtually anything by the media about the work of the organisation and we need to be able to handle the calls effectively.

"I am the editor of our internal staff magazine Horizon which, with the support of the team, we produce every two months.  We try to showcase the great work of our colleagues and keep everyone updated on the latest news within SPSA, and it is a great opportunity to meet people across the business.

"There is never a dull moment and I like that this job also let's me express my creative side, whether that is through writing press releases or working with our designers on the layout of the magazine or a promotional leaflet."
