Our Services
The Scottish Police Services Authority provides expert policing and support services to the eight Scottish police forces and criminal justice community.
Positioned throughout Scotland, we are committed to providing:
- training and education across all areas of policing
- national data and information technology systems
- the strategy for police information technology systems
- a national forensic service
We will also maintain the Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency, which exists to prevent and detect serious organised crime as it affects Scotland at a national and international level.
Historically, the range of services outlined above, were delivered by the Scottish Police College, Scottish Criminal Record Office and Scottish Police Information Strategy. On 1 April 2007, a new national forensic service was established, comprising the existing four forensic laboratories and four fingerprint bureaux located in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee and Aberdeen, and scenes of crime officers located within the eight Scottish police forces.
The Scottish Police Services Authority is the first example of a non-departmental public body within the Scottish Police Service, led by its Chief Executive, supported by members of the Executive Group.
