History of SID

Agreement was reached by all Scottish police forces and the then Scottish Drug Enforcement Agency in summer 2000 for a nationally networked method of managing intelligence. Support and funding was provided by the Scottish Executive.

A national project team was created and tasked with developing the system, the provision of training and the subsequent implementation to the Scottish police forces and the SDEA.

The official launch of SID took place at the Scottish Police College during December 2003 and the overall process was considered an historic achievement for the Scottish Police Service, not only in terms of ‘intelligence sharing,' but also the co-operation required to deliver and maintain a unified approach to the future development of police support systems.
